PARLAY — AN URBAN THINK TANK FOR CIVIC ENGAGMENT

This coming Parlay, hosted by actress Taja V. Simpson, is the 2nd installment in a series of powerful conversations about leveraging Millennial Black capital and social influence. As is tradition, I am honored to moderate the discussion, and bring you a new squad of EntrepreNOIR notables to wax eloquently and share insight about their thoughts on entrepreneurship and civic engagement. For Thursday the 3rd's convening, the conversation will be led by DeVaris Brown (Tech Maven & Co-Founder, Floodgate Academy), Nikia Phoenix (Dreamer, Empoweress & Model), Jason Lee (Founder of Hollywood Unlocked & Star of VH1's Love & Hip Hop), and Shantee & Mena Wright (Co-Owners & Co-Founders, Wright Productions). Additionally, our resident  DJ B-Hen will be mixing live, an eclectic and revolutionary soundtrack, that will set and reverberate the tone.

The launch and sustainment of Parlay is only as strong and effective as our participants -- yes, we're talking about you! If this is your first time with us, prepare for an experience that you'll never forget, and will treasure forever -- until the next Parlay of course! If you were with us for our launch, I'm ecstatic to see you again, and know that this Parlay is going to blow your mind!

Parlay 12.11.15 Launch: Recap

At the end of 2015, we launched the Parlay Conversation Series, holding the first of twelve conversations at the creative incubator Maker City LA in Downtown Los Angeles. As a result, over 230 influencers of color - CEO's in the nonprofit and business sectors, Creative Directors, Original Programming & Urban Entertainment Executives, Educators, Community and Political Organizers, Publishing Executives, Labor Leaders, Dreamers, Brand Ambassadors, Artists, Small Business Owners, Students and committed community members - are now a part of the Parlay village. It was extremely important that I mirror my intentioned outcome for this endeavor with a demonstration of collective work & cooperative economics, and am proud to share that all vendors that pooled their resources to make the launch a success are local, African American/Minority owned and operated businesses.

Our esteemed panelists Nkrumah Farrar (Creative Director & Co-Creator of Parlay), Miss Diddy (Lifestyle Specialist & CEO of The Brand Group), William Syms (Political/Community Organizer), Mir Harris (Associate Director, Urban/Rhythm & Soul at ASCAP), and Channing Hawkins (Government & Community Relations at SEIU Local 721), and our Emcee - actress Taja V. Simpson showed up & showed out, dropping candid insight and serious knowledge about their unique experiences as Black Millennials of influence.

Following the panel's conclusion, countless participants lined up for Q&A's, and our channels were flooded with responses and questions from our remote viewers via our livestream. Simply put, for three hours in the middle of a Friday afternoon in Downtown LA, we showed what civic engagement reinvented through the lens of Black Millennials looks like; The dream was actualized!

It is fair to say that the power generated by Parlay was more magnanimous than we could have imagined! We all left the space with fires ignited, and with a renewed excitement and dedication to further Parlay's manifesto. As promised you can find our first PARLAY PARCEL, comprised of a snippet of the curated, revolutionary soundtrack mixed live by our very own DJ B-Hen, and our branded digital manifesto (crafted specifically for you to SHARE), on this blog.

As we coalesce and build on the momentum from our launch, I encourage you to continue parlaying with each other. Both our existence and thrival are reciprocal, and dependent on our allegiance to very principals we discussed: Unity, Influence, Legacy, Ingenuity, coupled with a heightened understanding that we have the power to affect change in this world by using our platforms responsibly and being civically engaged.

Thank you, again, to our sponsors who gave generously their time and resources to bring Parlay's launch to fruition:

Parlay — An urban think tank for civic engagment

The launch of the Parlay conversation series has been a long time coming. What started off as a dream, has been brought to fruition in a cosmically magical way, with the generous partnership of several entities and in concert the energy and expertise garnered by our first round of panelists. I am infinitely thankful for the overwhelming support and confidence in this venture.

Every month, Parlay's topic will stay the same: A conversation about leveraging Black capital and social influence, from the millennial perspective. However, since our goal is to offer a diverse set of opinions into the discourse, the contributors and panelists will rotate each month. As Parlay grows, it is our goal that attendance at these events will be comprised of individuals across industries who are advocates of, and/or poised to support & promote the subject matter from their own positions of influence. I'm proud to report that we've had an overwhelmingly positive response in RSVP's. In addition to bearing witness to the ideas shared from the panelists, the audience is a vital participant in the tangible outcomes of each Parlay, as we are infusing real-time engagement via social media and audience participation to enhance the collective experience. Also, in acknowledging how important setting the atmosphere for substantive, progressive conversations like this, we have curated an exclusive soundtrack for #ParlayLA that will be mixed live during the event, as well as available via download for all attendees post-event.

We have no doubt that Parlay is going to change the game - and are excited that you'll be with us to ante up!
